Area Overview

Timbavati, meaning “the place where something sacred came down to Earth from the Heavens,” is a 130,000 acre private game reserve that shares an unfenced border with the Kruger National Park. Forming part of a huge conservation area that spans across international borders and incorporates a number of biomes, the Timbavati remains one of the strongholds for the Big Five; lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino are all regularly spotted, and even the endangered Cape hunting dog thrives in the area. In addition to over 350 species of birds, there are dozens of reptiles and amphibians.

The Timbavati is best known for its white lions, although it is still extremely rare to see them. From here eastwards into Kruger is the only known part of Africa that has the presence of this recessive gene. White lions aside, the Timbavati is regarded as one of South Africa’s premiere game viewing destinations. As well as having a consistently good density of wildlife, the Timbavati has a strong conservation ethos and vehicles numbers are kept to a minimum at wildlife sightings. This means a more exclusive safari experience and at the same time ensures the welfare of the habituated animals.

Experience & Activities

There are fantastic walking opportunities as well as 4×4 safari activities on offer at Tanda Tula, taking advantage of its enviable location where game is able to roam freely between the Timbavati and Kruger National Park as they are not fenced. The Timbavati is also recognised for its low human impact. All lodges in the area coordinate their game viewing activities according to strict controls which ensure the sustainability of the bushveld and sensitivity to the wildlife, making for an authentic and unspoilt experience.

Conservation & Community Projects

When staying at any of the Tanda Tula camps, guests contribute towards the Tanda Tula Education Foundation and the Greater Kruger National Park conservation initiatives in the Klaserie and Timbavati private nature reserves. Through ethical business practices and people-facing programs, Tanda Tula enables change immediately and provides growth for years to come. Responsible tourism is the foundation upon which Tanda Tula’s conservation efforts, community programs and research projects have been built.

Property Overview

Break away to a brilliantly bold and contemporary space, suspended aloft the N’wanetsi River in the Kruger National Park. The design of Lebombo Lodge was inspired by the many eagles’ nests built into the cliff face of the river bank, resulting in organic, light-filled structures, floating between river and sky.

All communal areas of the lodge have been pushed out into nature to ensure that the outside bursts in, offering immersive and meditative spaces set in a dramatic landscape of giant euphorbia trees. Besides the sumptuous private suite spaces, the lodge offers a wine studio, library and rooftop terrace, an interactive kitchen, an espresso bar and help-yourself deli, and an additional 25-metre lap pool.

Experience & Activities

Journeying into the heart of Africa’s most untouched and remote wilderness areas, Singita’s twice-daily game drives present the opportunity for intimate connections with nature and discovering the raw beauty of the continent’s most magnificent creatures up close. Each tailormade exploration with your personal field guide celebrates the freedom to spend unfiltered time in wide-open spaces and while no two Singita game drives are ever the same, you are bound to be enchanted by vivid encounters with Africa’s most iconic wildlife.

In addition to game drives and guided safari walks, other activities include wine experiences, stargazing, the boutique & gallery, the swimming pool, fitness and wellness centres, and a variety of family friendly activities.
